If you’re a human being in America (and many other parts of the world) over the age of about 5, I’m willing to bet you’ve had a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup.  Sweet, salty, nutty, and chocolatey, there aren’t many things better than when “You got chocolate in my peanut butter!” and “You got peanut butter on my chocolate!” (You’ll need to be well over 5 years old to get that old ad reference.)  I inherited a few things from my Grandma Mable: her curly hair, her high cheekbones, and her very persistent sweet-tooth.  Her recipe for these fantastic chocolate-peanut-butter bars was lost some time ago, but I did some digging on the good ol’ interwebs and found a recipe that had the same ingredients I remember seeing her use back when that silly commercial was still on the air.  I threw it together in about seven minutes and was delighted to be taken back to Grandma’s kitchen by the familiar taste and texture of these oh-so-yummy bars.  With this recipe, you get all of the classic flavor you’re used to, but with only seven simple ingredients, you know what you and your family are putting into your bodies.  I promise to all of my fellow Reese’s fans, these bars will not disappoint.  In fact, if you’re like me, you might find you like these Easy, No-bake Reese’s Bars even better than the kind you get in that famous orange wrapper.

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • 1 c. salted butter, melted
  • 1 c. smooth peanut butter
  • 2 c. graham cracker crumbs (about 12-15 crackers)
  • 1 3/4 c. powdered sugar
  • 1/4 c. brown sugar
  • 1 t. vanilla
  • One 11.5 oz. bag milk chocolate chips (about 2 c.)

In a large bowl combine everything but the chocolate chips into a wet but spreadable batter.  Spread the mixture into a 9×13 pan and spread evenly with a spatula.

Next, melt the chocolate chips, either using a double-boil method or the microwave at half power (if you microwave, be sure to stir it every 30 seconds or so to prevent scorching).  Pour the melted chocolate over the peanut butter and spread evenly.  Jiggle the pan a little to smooth out any bumps and refrigerate for an hour or more.

Wasn’t that easy?  Now, just slice them up to your desired size and dig in!
