Do your's lay? Every spring we find the nest and pick a day to gather the eggs then incubate them. Not a great hatch rate, but as you said you end up losing a few each year. This is a good way to keep the flock going.

I love mine. Something came thru and took 4 of them right after I brought them home. No noise ,feathers nothing. I was less than 40 feet away on the other side of the house. The next week I lost the 5th one. The 6th got caught by something and lost an eye. I call him 1 eye Waldo. He greets me every morning at the bath room window. He will tap 3 times on the metal roof and I return 3 taps back. This goes on for a number of times, then I head out. He follows me to my shop and hangs outside the shop but stays close. Once in a while he will race me to the front door and that is his signal he wants to come in the house. He makes it in about 10 to 12 feet and then runs back outside. He is an absolute pleasure to have at my home.
