Emily, you may have a wonderful point without knowing. I took from you post; You "noticed" an upsweep in traditional canning and preservation! While looking for a parcel of land to purchase. Becoming a noveaux farmer and along with teaching your own children "basic" but absolutely necessary life lessons. I'm also amazed at how abundant information comes to those that are seeking a lifestyle change. You must be drawn to the concept. No wonder, most of your agrar ian contacts are focused on some of the same ideas you have. 2 Thessalonians 3:10 For even when we were with you, we gave you this rule: "If a man will not work, he shall not eat." We hear that some among you are idle. They are not busy; they are busybodies. Such people we command and urge in the Lord Jesus Christ to settle down and earn the bread they eat.

As usual Sheri, you entertained me and took me back to when I raised milk and meat goats. No longer keeping animals (other than two remaining elderly cats) has freed us considerably from the twice daily milkings, etc. I would (perhaps) like to have chickens again, but the raccoons and weasels would like that as well.

It's interesting, I commented to my husband today that I've noticed a shift in professional people in our circle buying rural land and studying agriculture, livestock, etc. in the last several years, just as I noticed an upsweep in interest in "lost arts," such as canning and preparedness. My husband and I fit this classification as well, and are so grateful to be noveaux farmers, with our children experiencing country life and its joys and work.

Most of the people I see in this return to agrarian life I know through the church. I wonder if there is not indeed a divine plan behind what I'm seeing, for the times that lie ahead.

Thanks for your witty and wholly enjoyable article - look forward to seeing more.

I wish I could share your enthusiasm that " we can, and will, ease this generation out of the long dark Tunnel of Consumerism and back into the grandmotherly hug that is the Circle of Life." Too many people don't understand, or don't care and it's past being sad.
Thanks for a well written article.
