Lynn Ellen Doxon's books are as varied and exciting as
her life. She grew up on the modern homesteaders ideal, seven rural acres
with a half acre garden, chickens, pigs, horses, a cow and orchard. In the
1970's she became interested in alternative energy sources and was a VISTA
volunteer. Along with Robert Brautigam, she formed the Tallgrass Research
Center to promote the use of fuel alcohol. She and Robert worked together
perfecting their still and promoting alcohol fuel until Brautigams death in
1982.
In the 1980's, she attended Kansas State University and earned her Masters
and Doctorate degrees in Horticultural Science. While attending the
university, she met her husband, Robert Habiger. Together, Lynn and Robert
moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico in the late 1980's.
Since moving to Albuquerque, Lynn has worked as an Urban Horticultural
Specialist for New Mexico State University cooperative Extension Service,
helped Robert build and maintain a business, and written a weekly column on
gardening for the Albuquerque Journal.
Along with her weekly column for the Journal, Lynn has also written articles
for many magazines and technical journals including Modern Liturgy,
HortTechnology, Environment and Art, HortScience, and Journal of Therapeutic
Horticulture. High Desert Yards & Gardens is her first book and was the
result of her weekly column with the Albuquerque Journal.
In the late 1990's, Lynn and Robert started the process to adopt three girls
from the Ukraine. In late 1997, Stacy, Jana, and Lydia finally joined the
family. Lynn's days are now mostly spent raising and home schooling the
girls and writing. She plans on writing her next book on her and Robert's
experience in adopting their daughters.
